History lesson

Yesterday we took Caitlyn and a friend over to McDonald's at Greenlane and gave them a history lesson all about Georgie Pie, this was a favourite of her big brothers when he was little so it was neat for Cait to see what all the fuss has been about on the news.
....And yes, they tasted just like the original all those years ago.

On the way home we found ourselves smack dab in the center of that horribly heavy rainfall that passed over Auckland....Boy was it heavy! Visibility was almost zero and Mal had the wipers on double speed.
By the time we arrived home it was passing and about an hour later Mal called me outside with camera in hand to get a shot of the most stunning rainbow.....It was huge and gorgeous!
What is it about rainbows that make you feel awe and happiness at the same time?

Today has been a wonderful day and thankfully fine enough to catch up on laundry......It had to be done!

Guest Designer and Creative Corners

Hello, It's time for my second post as a guest designer over at the

This time i thought i would design a card to play along with this week's creative challenge
on the challenge blog which is to use corner dies.

I used the lace deco I corners over black and gold script paper.
I have mixed some older and newer dies on my card, I love the new rum punch doily and have just used the outside then layered over this with wreath strip and tropical leaves.
The tropical leaves set has six different dies in the set and these leaves are the largest die which is perfect as "filler" leaves due to their bigger size.
The flowers are made with new sweet williams and daisy strip dies and the centers are on the build a flower #2 embellishments die..... This die is a must for your collection!
I finished off my card off with a dream catcher, this is a new die and quite cute!
Here is a close up of the flowers i made...

And the dream catcher finished with a few pearls...

I have used the following dies on my card:
Cheery Lynn B188 Build a flower #2 embellishments
Cheery Lynn B307 Sweet Williams Strip
Cheery Lynn DL240 Rum Punch Doily
Cheery Lynn B259 Daisy Strip
Cheery Lynn B216 Wreath Strip
Cheery Lynn B318 Dream Catchers #2
Cheery Lynn B119 Tropical Leaves
Cheery Lynn B241 Rose Leaf Strip
Cheery Lynn B174 Lace Deco Corner I

Self Challenge

Like a lot of frugal crafters i save all of the extra die cut bits and pieces that never quite make it onto my projects.
I don't want to waste these wee gems so they go  into a container because you never know when you may just need a little die cut element.

While looking at this ever growing collection of bits and pieces i decided to issue myself a challenge.
Make a card only using die cuts from my surplus container....Plus basic card stock of course.
It was no surprise that the majority of die cuts were from my Cheery Lynn Designs collection....Yes, i do have a huge addiction but honestly these dies are simply the best!
This is what i whipped up in about 20 minutes, it's a lot cleaner and simpler than my usual style but i found it quite refreshing for a change....I'm not saying i'll do this again but it was good for a play and to use up some of those extra die cuts i had sitting around.

So here's my completed rocker card....What do you think?

Have a great weekend and i'll be back tomorrow night to share my second project as a guest designer on the Cheery Lynn Blog.

June Guest Designer For Cheery Lynn Designs

Hi all, I have been very excited to share my big news with you.
The time has come and I can finally tell you that I was asked to be a

Yep, I am thrilled to be a guest designer with my favourite company for June.
So I will be posting projects on a Saturday night (NZ time) for the next 4 weeks.
Thank you BJ, Gini and Lori for giving me this amazing opportunity.....So exciting!

So for my first project as guest designer I have designed a gate fold card in pink & Cream.
I really love the softness and femininity of the colours but it also has lots of layers for visual  interest.

I started with a metallic pearl gate fold card, adding striped patterned paper edged with strips of
lace light deco border in cream embellished with pink rhinestones. for added bling.
I added a layer of chicken wire cut in metallic pink.
This is one of my favourite dies for adding background texture.

A french pastry doily was die cut in cream, cut in half and centered on each side of the card.
To embellish my card I added velvet blooms in opposite corners with rose leaf and leaf flourish foliage.   I finished the front off with a sentiment frame on another tag topped with a hugs sentiment.

To decorate the inside of my card I covered each panel with coordinating patterned paper.
In the four outside corners I placed a die cut from the lace deco corners I set
and finished off the center with strips of light lace deco border cut in metallic pink card.

I hope you have enjoyed my first project, I will be back with another project next week.

Cheery Lynn Red, White & Blue

Hello,
It's a beautiful day in Auckland today, they are few and far between now we are heading in to winter so i'm enjoying the sunshine and catching up on some laundry while i can get it dry.
I've created another card for this week's challenge over at the
Cheery Lynn Challenge Blog

The theme this week is "Red, White and Blue"
I have been playing with fancy fold cards a bit lately and this time i made a magic card
(credit goes to Marianne Skjelstad for the idea).

This card has "wings" on either side that bend out so that the card can stand up and the center portion lifts up so you can leave a message on the inside....Very clever!

I used a vintage photo for the front of the card and overlaid the photo with mini roses and foliage made from Cheery Lynn olive branch, rose leaf strip and wreath leaf strip dies.

The inside has Anastasia border strips top and bottom.
I was a bit intimidated by the colour combo at first ....It is not one i would normally do but i think i have
managed to combine the three successfully without it being overwhelming.

I have used the following dies on my card:
Cheery Lynn B188 Build A Flower Embellishments #2
Cheery Lynn B152 Miniature Rose
Cheery Lynn B178 Flourish Leaf Strip
Cheery Lynn B241 Rose Leaf Strip
Cheery Lynn B216 Wreath Strip
Cheery Lynn B136 Anastasia Border
Cheery Lynn B248 Hugs Sentiment
Cheery Lynn B147 Olive Branches

Tomorrow I have some big news to share with you.
Thanks for dropping by my blog and have a good week.

Yellow Challenge

Those that know me well know that bright colours and me don't really get on too well....I'm more a subtle/ dark even neutral kinda gal so when I was presented with a sheet of bright yellow cardstock and challenged to create a card with it I kinda freaked!

I'm not talking a pretty, pleasant or even nice shade of yellow..... This was OMG, where are my sunglasses Flouro Yellow!

But not being one to run from a challenge I was determined to complete this challenge....I just had to figure out a way to tone down or hide the yellow...heehee

So here is the card and no i'm not happy with it, I just don't do colours this bright....But it's done!

Center Step Card

I really enjoyed making my first center step card (3 posts back) so I thought I would make one for Errol for his birthday which was yesterday.

This time I added chipboard cogs cut using a Tim Holtz Alterations die and sprayed with silver foil smooch spritz, it gave that nice glittery look which I toned down slightly by inking over the spritz with vintage photo distress ink.

And a side view, the inside has been decorated as well.

I'll leave you with a close up of the cogs.
Have a wonderful long weekend :-)

I'm entering this into the Simon Says Stamp Challenge (Anything Goes)
